Ablative of Instrument
- abl. noun or pronoun without a preposition
- translate as "by means of"
Ablative of accompaniment
- "In what company/with whom?"
- an abl. w/ "cum"
- translate "cum" as "with"
Ablative of manner
- "How/In what manner?"
- "Cum" + abl., usually an abstract noun
- e.g. "she works with care"
Geniotive of the whole
- a gen. indicating a whole and used after a word that indicates part of a whole
- e.g. "pors urbes" - "part of the city"
Ablative with cardinal numbers
- a gen. indicating a whole and used after a word that indicates part of a whole
- e.g. "pors urbes" - "part of the city"
Ablative of time
- time when or within which an action happens
- indicated using an abl. w/o a preposition
- translate as "at", "on", "in", or "within", but never "for"
Ablative of agent
- Agent by whom the action of a passive verb is performed
- Indicated by "ā"/"ab" + an abl.
Ablative of place from which
- Involves a verb of active motion
- Almost always has a form of "ab", "de", or "ex"
Ablative of separation
- implies that something is separate from the other
- no preposition when used with ther verbs "to free", "to lack", "to deprive"
Ablative of place where
- where some thing/one is located or when an action is occurring
- typically used with "in" or "sub"
Comparitive adjectives
- translates as "more ___"
- -ior- if masc./fem.
- -ius- if neuter
- 3rd declension endings after comparative infix
Superlatives
- "the ___-est", "the most ___"
- stem + "issim" + 1st/2nd decl. ending
- infix is almost always -issim- regardless of gender
- always first or second declension
